INSURER SETTLES WITH FARMERS WHO LOST INVESTMENTS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Seventeen years ago, dairy farmer Bob Dygert of Montgomery County shelled out $15,000 for retirement insurance to provide for him and his family when he decided to hang up his milking stool.

But in 1997, Dygert and 37 other area dairy farmers who had invested in the fund were told that it had failed and that they would not receive any more retirement or death payments from the New York City-based insurance company. And $700,000 that the farmers had shelled out for the benefits also was lost.
